Low ovarian reserve is well known to be a contributing factor in infertility. Furthermore, understanding a woman’s ovarian reserve allows fertility experts at Kiran Infertility Centre – Bengaluru to forecast an individual’s response to controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) in IVF cycles: if a patient has a low ovarian reserve, for example, she would most likely have a poor ovarian response after COS.
The occurrence of poor ovarian response in IVF ranges from 10 to 20% and it increases with female age. AFC (Antral follicle count – transvaginal ultrasound scan) is the most direct measure of ovarian reserve and corresponds to how many eggs are likely to be retrieved during IVF thereby affecting outcome for successful pregnancy.
