Embryo transfer is a medical procedure that involves taking the fertilized egg and sperm and implanting the newly formed embryo into a woman’s uterus or womb. The placement of embryos should be precise and as part of in vitro fertilization cycle, embryo transfers can significantly improve the intended parent’s chances of conceiving.
However, according to the embryologists of Kiran Infertility Centre – Bengaluru, the basic question that arises during embryo transfer is about how many embryos need to transfer to increase the chances of successful implantation.
In the majority of cases, fertility specialists will only transfer one or two blastocyst embryo into the uterus. Sometimes, transferring two embryos can increase the chances of successful implantation for a woman aged 35 years or older.
Factors that determine how many embryos to transfer include-
- Embryo recipient’s age
- Reproductive history of the recipient
Preimplantation genetic testing is used to determine the best quality embryos.
