What is teratozoospermia and infertility treatment advised in this case
Teratozoospermia occurs when there is an increased concentration of abnormal sperms in the man’s semen. This condition is diagnosed when the sperm with abnormal morphology exceeds 96% of a man’s total sperm sample. Abnormal sperm is less likely to fertilize eggs or create healthy embryos. The possibility of a normal sperm reaching and fertilizing the egg is reduced when there are large numbers of abnormal cells thereby requiring infertility treatment.
For mild teratozoospermia, the doctors of Kiran Infertility Centre – Bengaluru recommend IUI or IVF as best and viable infertility treatment. IVF allows joining the patient’s eggs with an improved quality of sperm sample in a special laboratory dish under controlled conditions to increase the chances of successful fertilization.
Where the normal sperm count is really low, ICSI fertility treatment allows the embryologist to evaluate the sperm individually and find out which sperm is optimal for injecting it into the egg.
